The DSi is the third version of Nintendo's worldwide best selling portable games console. Building on the qualities that made the original DS and DS Lite so popular, the DSi can play all of the back catalogue of DS games and features the same superb dual screen, style and microphone gameplay that the device has become famous for.

The DSi is thinner and lighter than the already very portable DSi, but also manages to offer larger 3.25-inch screens. This makes all those Nintendo DS games look a whole lot better, and makes them easier to play. As well as bolstering existing gameplay the DSi also introduces new possibilities for game creators.

The new DSiWare shop enables players to browse, purchase and download games straight to the handheld console. This new DS specific game store mirrors the Nintendo Wii's WiiWare offering and has already attracted an impressive array of exclusive games.

The DSi also offers new ways to interact. Most impressive is the inclusion of two cameras - one pointing at the player and one on the lid. This not only creates a plethora of new gameplay options but also turns the device into a handy digital camera. Pictures can then be played with before being directly uploaded to Facebook. A new sound recorder facility provides similar functionality for audio. Players can record, playback and alter their recordings before sharing them with their friends.

The console is rounded off by the replacement of the GBA slot with a new SD card slot. This enables players to save their pictures, recordings and games to an SD card to secure storage.

With developers creating new games built exclusively for the new DSi hardware, the DSiWare shop and the 1000's of compatible DS games, this is one of the most impressive ways to play games on the go.
