Jewel Master: Cradle Of Rome 2 is the latest in a series of hugely popular jewel-matching games, with a strategic and historical twist.

Jewel Master: Cradle Of Rome 2 is more than simply a match-three game. It still features the ridiculously addictive jewel-matching gameplay that has made this series and other titles so successful. However, like Triple Town (PC), success at matching three items here leads on to success in the larger meta game of constructing and developing a historical civilisation. Resources must be gathered and used to build and progress and eventually attain the rank of Caesar.

This higher level of strategy should provide an added challenge to the game and lead to you think further than simply the next possible match. It's an exciting prospect and it's good to see the 3DS continue to attract more casual titles alongside the growth of more hardcore games for the system.

As a 3DS title, most of the actual jewel-matching gameplay looks to be taking place on the lower screen in 2D, making use of the touch screen. Meanwhile the upper screen displays a variety of attractive scenes and visuals of your developing settlement.

The style of gameplay may not be an obvious match for the system as the 3D does little to enhance the gameplay, but it looks as though Jewel Master: Cradle Of Rome 2 could be a welcome addition to the library of titles available for 3DS owners with a diverse range of tastes.

Jewel Master: Cradle Of Rome 2 is now out for the Nintendo 3DS.

With so many different perspectives it can be hard to know where to start - a little like walking into a crowded pub. Sorry about that.

But so far we've not found a way to streamline our review output - there's basically too much of it. So, rather than dilute things for newcomers we have decided to live with the hubbub while helping new readers find the columnists they will enjoy.
