I've been an avid gamer since I could hold a joystick. The day that I received my first computer was the beacon of light that is the world of gaming. There it sat, the Commodore 64 - the technological genius, the amazing graphics, the speed of the processor. The, long, loading, times. All worth it though.
I worked my way through most machines from the NES right up to the PS3 and Wii. I'm currently toying with the idea of adding a 360 now, as there really are some cool games that I just can't buy on my other consoles. This diversity has somewhat dampened my ability to pick a favourite technological beast. But I do have favourite games. I've always love Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank franchises, and had a soft spot for Final Fantasy.
I have a degree in Computer Animation and SFX which, when playing games, can improve or ruin some games for me. The reason being is that I over analyse stuff sometimes, like the fluidity of the animation, or the physics of explosions, water effects etc. If they're good, then all go all geeky and play the game in awe of the technology and talent used. If there are little daft things that don't look right, for instance, the way a character jumps over something or how someone falls when they've been shot, I tend to be over analytical.
A few months ago I started writing blogs for my friend's website over at www.zath.co.uk, which turned into film reviews, which then turned into games reviews. I haven't gone into to much depth with my games reviews before and just wrote about how the game played, the features and benefits of doing certain things, but that's about to change.
Here, I'll be digging into the game's technical shenanigans. The physics, animation quality, console horsepower. Top this off with the low down on setting up a gaming rig that will make the most of your play experience and you should have a pretty tech savvy write up.
It's a challenge that I'm looking forward, and one I hope you will enjoy too. Certainly if you are into tech and into games, this should be the place for you.
