Even though New Super Mario Brothers has been out for a while, it's still worth a look. It's converted and hooked this ageing platformer cynic.
Right, so I was using my mate's DS during a boredom emergency and happened to find New Super Mario Bros already in the slot. I gave it a quick play and I couldn't believe how easy it was to get into - the levels, cutesy story and great power ups.
I managed to blag the copy to take home and got my missus linked up to see if two player was much cop - it's more cop than the cast of The Bill. The mini games allow for tournaments to be had and set up with adjustable scores and rules. There are action, skill and luck games to choose, most of which utilise the DS features superbly. We played the 2 player VS part of the main game for a couple of hours on the train last week - and only stopped when the battery went on her DS.
To be honest, I'm annoyed with myself for missing out on Mario all this time. It's easy to pick up and hard to put down, with so much variety and stuff to do for the main and mini games.
Every DS slot should be treated to a copy. Quite possibly the best game for two people eber made. I'm off to get a mate to play this with!
Offers loads of gameplay and mini games are almost like having extra carts. The 2-player modes are fun, addictive, varied and also very competitive.

"I remember watching and waiting for Teletext pages to tell me the latest and greatest video game news in the 80s and 90s. What better way then, to review the best of those old games with some choice new titles here and there."

Sorry about that. But so far we've not found a way to streamline our review output - there's basically too much of it. So, rather than dilute things for newcomers we have decided to live with the hubbub while helping new readers find the columnists they will enjoy. |
