While most game reviews skim over the whole of a game, I focus on just one mode or level.
I've always been slightly obsessive about my video games. I simply like to do things in order, but this usually means I never quite get off my favourite mode. I simply enjoy perfecting my score or performance in one little corner of a game rather than trying to finish the whole game.
Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure intelligently updates the Bubble Bobble sequel. Amongst a plethora of spin offs, for the first time we have a fitting follow up to the classic 90's arcade, Amiga and Atari ST hit Rainbow Islands. Batman Arkam Asylum on 360 and PS3 is the best Batman game to date, granted, but how good is the Challenge Mode. I take another of my close looks at this aspect of the game and discover that Challenge Mode offers the purest combat experience to those who are prepared to put in the effort to fight creatively with precision. Fight Night Round 4 on 360 and PS3 is a great game. But I want to review just one aspect - Legacy Mode. This I found to be a perfectly adequate Career Mode, although something of an afterthought. After hours of training and fighting I eventually made it to be the Greatest of all Time, but I didn't feel any sense of achievement.
