Bayonetta on 360 PS3

Bayonetta Screen Shots

Bayonetta is a Fighting game available on the 360 PS3. It can be played in Singleplayer Thirdperson modes.

Bayonetta is a Fighting game. Fighting games revolve around the interaction of two or more characters in some form of physical combat. Players learn to control characters through either memorisation of button combinations to access more advance moves, or by their reactions and accurate timing.

Bayonetta can be played in a Singleplayer mode. Single Player Campaign games focus on one player's experience. Rather than collaborate with other players either locally or online, players progress alone. The campaign style of gameplay offers a connected series of challenges to play through. These chapters work together to tell a story through which players progress. Single player games are able to focus on one experience of a scenario, so that it is usually a richer, more visceral game.

Bayonetta can be played in a Thirdperson mode. Third Person games view the world from over the right shoulder of the character being controlled. This enables you to see the character you are controlling as well as their surrounds. Although not as immersive as first person, third person games enable more complex moves and interactions with the environment.

Soulful Gamer review Wed, 20 Jan 2010

Bayonetta takes the base structure of Devil May Cry and turns it into a kaleidoscopic fruit basket of exorbitant gameplay, colour and style. Bayonetta is the ultimate video game. The sheer indulgent delight of sampling its intoxicating mix left me breathless with adoration for its balletic combat, fantastical characters and intriguing plot.

I must admit the very mechanics that Bayonetta on both 360 and PS3 works from has never previously interested me. The action/adventure combat system nearly always defeats me with it complexity, difficulty level and the manner in which it often obscures the game world. But Bayonetta has changed all that. With its camp and overblown presentation providing the lustful eye-candy, the actual combat is as graceful and cathartic as the Kirov ballet.

Intimate Gamer review Thu, 14 Jan 2010

After playing Bayonetta I'm a little mystified as to how it's got such universal acclaim. Although by no means a bad game, it's dated and has plenty of flaws. I also found myself uncomfortable with some of the game's content -- and trust me, that takes a lot.

Bayonetta is being described as one of the best games ever made by a large number of reviewers, some of whom go as far as to suggest it is game of the year 2010, despite the fact that we are only two weeks into this brave new year. I've not seen such hyperbole since Grand Theft Auto IV was released -- in fact, it's hard to find a negative review or a bad word said about it.

Frugal Gamer review Wed, 25 Nov 2009

From the creator of the highly successful Devil May Cry series, Bayonetta for the PS3 and Xbox 360 is an extraordinary stylish, over-the-top action game that blends fast-flowing combat with some amazing enemies and environments. Playing as Bayonetta, a witch with incredible and spectacular powers, you face angelic demons, evil enemies and boss battles that are enormous in scope and concept. With an impressive visual style and dynamic combat coming together in a blend of balletic brilliance, Bayonetta pushes the action-brawler started by God of War into new and exciting territory.

There's something inherently unique, crazy and over-the-top about Japanese games in general - whether it's the extraordinary worlds of Final Fantasy XIII or the insane action of the Devil May Cry series. But Bayonetta takes all the insanity from director Hideki Kamiya's previous works, strips out the dark and dry storyline and pushes the visual spectacle to the maximum for full effect.

Scared Gamer review Fri, 20 Nov 2009

Bayonetta on PS3 and 360 creates an unnerving, if a little schizophrenic, fighting game. Craziness abounds as witch-ly and wicca themes combine to convince the player that there is something unsettling at work here, although sometimes it's hard to tell if this is a genuine intention or just a side effect of the here-there-and-everywhere plot.

Hideki Kamiya was a former designer and director at Capcom, in his roles there is was responsible for some of the most stylish and innovative games of the last twelve years. His latest game Bayonetta revolves around a witch of the same name and her battle against the angels. The game takes many of its stylistic and game play cues from one of Kamiya san's previous game's, Devil May Cry, placing a heavy focus on style and high action combat. The question is, with the game set for release in the busy first half of 2010 in the west, will it stand up to similar higher profile titles like God of War 3 and Dante's Inferno?
