Fight Night Round 4 on 360

Fight Night Round 4 Screen Shots

Fight Night Round 4 is a Fighting game available on the 360. It can be played in Thirdperson Singleplayer Competitive modes.

Fight Night Round 4 is a Fighting game. Fighting games revolve around the interaction of two or more characters in some form of physical combat. Players learn to control characters through either memorisation of button combinations to access more advance moves, or by their reactions and accurate timing.

Fight Night Round 4 can be played in a Thirdperson mode. Third Person games view the world from over the right shoulder of the character being controlled. This enables you to see the character you are controlling as well as their surrounds. Although not as immersive as first person, third person games enable more complex moves and interactions with the environment.

Fight Night Round 4 can be played in a Singleplayer mode. Single Player Campaign games focus on one player's experience. Rather than collaborate with other players either locally or online, players progress alone. The campaign style of gameplay offers a connected series of challenges to play through. These chapters work together to tell a story through which players progress. Single player games are able to focus on one experience of a scenario, so that it is usually a richer, more visceral game.

Fight Night Round 4 can be played in a Competitive mode. Competitive Multiplayer games provide experiences where players compete against each other and the computer. Obviously lending itself to sports and team games, these competitive engagements have also dominated the shooting and fighting genres because of the direct combat and expertise involved in each. Although these games were originally played in a split screen style, more recently they are played online via services such as PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and the Nintendo Wireless Connection.

Fight Night Round 4 on 360 and PS3 aims to provide realistic boxing action on the big consoles. The sequel to the popular Fight Night Round 3, it offers plenty of options and moments of boxing history for fans. But for me, it completely lacked the juxtaposition of beauty and brutality that so transfixes me when watching the real sport. It's quite an enjoyable game against friends, but played alone it lacks heart and stymies progress.

Despite offering an array of gameplay options such as a multiplayer mode and being able to play as your favourite boxer from the history books, I decided to focus much of my efforts on the Legacy Mode. The idea of starting out on the bottom rung and working my way up to be the greatest boxer ever, sounded very appealing to my RPG loving nature.

EA's Fight Night series is out on its own when it comes to realistic boxing games. But instead of releasing a minor sequek and resting on the series' laurels, Fight Night Round 4 on 360 and PS3 continues to improve and continues to impress.

Staggering back against the ropes, I shield my face with my gloves and desperately urge my stamina meter to start replenishing. Sidestepping to the right, I manage to swing a massive right hand that connects perfectly, sending sweat flying across the ring mat and my opponent reeling. He's dazed, and I can move in with a flurry of quick shots to regain my footing in the match.

Fight Night Round 4 on 360 and PS3 is a great game. But I want to review just one aspect - Legacy Mode. This I found to be a perfectly adequate Career Mode, although something of an afterthought. After hours of training and fighting I eventually made it to be the Greatest of all Time, but I didn't feel any sense of achievement. Just nagging loss for all the time that I would never get back.

Fight Night Round 3 on both 360 and PS3 left a big imprint on me. I played it an awful lot when I had glandular fever and couldn't really do much else for a number of weeks. The controls were excellent, once mastered, and the game itself was stylised and excellently realised. So I was eager to get started with an all-new Legacy career mode in version four.
