Madden 09 is a Sporting game available on the Wii. It can be played in Singleplayer Cooperative Competitive modes.

Madden 09 is a Sporting game. Sports games recreate a wide variety of real life competitive activities. Depending on the sport, these will either have an action or strategy focus. Popular sports games are often released on an annual basis, each year the game receives new player rosters and game improvements.

Madden 09 can be played in a Singleplayer mode. Single Player Campaign games focus on one player's experience. Rather than collaborate with other players either locally or online, players progress alone. The campaign style of gameplay offers a connected series of challenges to play through. These chapters work together to tell a story through which players progress. Single player games are able to focus on one experience of a scenario, so that it is usually a richer, more visceral game.

Madden 09 can be played in a Cooperative mode. Cooperative Multiplayer games provide an experience that is played symaltaneously by multiple players. Unlike the simple arena competitive multiplayer style games where players try to kill the most enemies, true co-operative games are designed to take a group of players through a campaign experience together. This will involve sections where players have to work together to proceed - either from the sheer difficulty as in Halo 3 on 360 or by the design of levels such as LittleBigPlanet on PS3.

Madden 09 can be played in a Competitive mode. Competitive Multiplayer games provide experiences where players compete against each other and the computer. Obviously lending itself to sports and team games, these competitive engagements have also dominated the shooting and fighting genres because of the direct combat and expertise involved in each. Although these games were originally played in a split screen style, more recently they are played online via services such as PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and the Nintendo Wireless Connection.

Madden puts in another impressive showing on the Wii and tangibly improves for the third year in a row. The combination of intelligent gesture controls, a variety of assists for players of different abilities and the integration of Mii's into the heart of the game is simply a recipe too good to resist.

I have been playing Madden on the Wii for three years now. Each time I pick it up though, I am reminded that American Football is not my home game. The language, rules and general ethos is something that simply escapes me. But at the same time I am equally drawn to EA's rendition of the sport on the Wii because it seems to be such a great fit for the system. And slowly but surely this is winning me over the ways and nuances of the rough tough all American pastime.

Madden is the longest running American Football franchise. In 2007 it was one of the first games to make use of gesture control in a traditional video game. Both the controls and the game were well received, and with the additions of Family Play in 2008 and All Play in 2009, it has become a choice sports game for Wii gamers.
