RUSE on 360 PS3

RUSE Screen Shots

RUSE is a Strategy game available on the 360 PS3. It can be played in Thirdperson Singleplayer modes.

RUSE is a Strategy game. Strategy games provide experiences that require quick thinking, and forward planning from the gamer. They combine the unfolding tactics of classic games like chess, with more recent board games such as Risk. Usually focusing on a theatre of war context, players enjoy the tactical overview of the battle these games provide.

RUSE can be played in a Thirdperson mode. Third Person games view the world from over the right shoulder of the character being controlled. This enables you to see the character you are controlling as well as their surrounds. Although not as immersive as first person, third person games enable more complex moves and interactions with the environment.

RUSE can be played in a Singleplayer mode. Single Player Campaign games focus on one player's experience. Rather than collaborate with other players either locally or online, players progress alone. The campaign style of gameplay offers a connected series of challenges to play through. These chapters work together to tell a story through which players progress. Single player games are able to focus on one experience of a scenario, so that it is usually a richer, more visceral game.

RUSE works its angles well, but succeeds not because of tactical or motion control novelties but because it is a solid and challenging game. It proves that Real Time Strategies can work well on a console.

My mates all insist that your need to play strategy games on the PC. But since Halo Wars and Supreme Commander 2 I've found I almost prefer commanding my troops with dual sticks rather than the mouse.

Dressup Gamer review Thu, 07 Oct 2010

RUSE for PlayStation 3 Move is a strong attempt to bring real time strategy to a console. The motion controls offer the fine unit control that is usually missing when using a game pad. A deep and enjoyable conflict is slightly let down by a narrative that fails to put you in character for this WWII strategy title.

As a former fan of real time strategy (RTS), I was hoping that RUSE would return that old sense of satisfaction I used to achieve with keyboard and mouse back when you still needed a DOS boot disc to play. Does it make pretending to be a general a satisfying combination of multi-tasking, strategic thinking and quick clicking or am I still hampered by input method?
