PES 2011 3DS firms up its 3D visuals, local multiplayer and StreetPass features. Most importantly it finally commits to a 25th March launch title release date.

PES 2011 3D has been confirmed as a launch title on the Nintendo 3DS. Along with the firm date we also have more details about gameplay and features.

Pro Evolution Soccer 3D retains the PES series' style of play and ball controlwhile offering an enhanced "real depth" to passes, crosses, and generally interplay. The new Player camera enables you to see further down the pitch to work more closely as a team.

Pro Evolution 3DS Announced

21/01/2011

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D is more than a novelty launch title on the 3DS. A new 3D camera angle adds real depth and perspective that offer new ways to play the beautiful game.

Pro Evolution Soccer returns to Nintendo's handheld with an innovative and ambitious outing on the 3DS. The most impressive and substantial change here is the use of 3D to offer a better perspective on the action.

Having spent a day with the game I have a good sense of how it plays now. Firstly this is one of the most demanding 3D experiences I've tried on the 3DS. The level of detail and combination of player and pitch movement meant it took my eyes longer to adjust.

Once acclimatised though, things are very impressive. The 3D screen offers a new lower camera angle that lets you see further up and down the pitch. That makes it easier to judge distances on crosses and passes as well as line up shots more accurately.

As a long time PES player, these new play dynamics took a while to get used to (along with the 3D visuals). But it doesn't take long to realise that this is the same familiar Pro Evolution engine running behind the scenes.

It's an ambitious first outing on the 3DS from Konami, and with no sign of FIFA on the system so far, it looks like this is a gamble that has paid off.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is expected to be released between 25th March and early June.

Sinan Kubba writes the Returning Gamer column.

"As an 80s kid I was obsessed with gaming. But university, stress and life relegated my hobby to the backseat. After years in the wilderness, I'm back into video games. I don't just want to play games that remind of a happy youth though. I'm just as excited about games that take things forward, experiences that re-ignite that curiosity and fascination I had years ago."

Here are the games I've been playing recently:

With so many different perspectives it can be hard to know where to start - a little like walking into a crowded pub. Sorry about that.

But so far we've not found a way to streamline our review output - there's basically too much of it. So, rather than dilute things for newcomers we have decided to live with the hubbub while helping new readers find the columnists they will enjoy.
