While most game reviews skim over the whole of a game, I focus on just one mode or level.

I've always been slightly obsessive about my video games. I simply like to do things in order, but this usually means I never quite get off my favourite mode. I simply enjoy perfecting my score or performance in one little corner of a game rather than trying to finish the whole game.

Maybe it's because I started playing in an era where you only had one way to play each game, and you had to go back to the beginning if you died - you know, the world of Cassette tape loading and blowing in Cartridges. But somewhere along the line something clicked and I realised this was simply how I enjoyed playing the games. And to tell you the truth it's a bit of a relief not having to complete every level or collect every Achievement, I may not have the highest gamerscore but I like to think it contains some of the rarer awards not found in other people's lists.

I know this is not how you are supposed to play games, for a start there are very few Achievements or Trophies for getting a perfect score on one minigame, or one challenge mode. I know the designers didn't expect people like me to play their games. But that doesn't stop me from getting stuck in and playing the same level over and over - it's simply a delight in perfection. The Olympic challenge to myself where I largely compete against and in front an audience of one - moi.

With so many different perspectives it can be hard to know where to start - a little like walking into a crowded pub. Sorry about that.

But so far we've not found a way to streamline our review output - there's basically too much of it. So, rather than dilute things for newcomers we have decided to live with the hubbub while helping new readers find the columnists they will enjoy.

What sort of gamer are you?

Our columnists each focus on a particular perspective and fall into one of the following types of gamers:
