Gears of War 3 has been released on 360 and been provided for us to preview/review by the publisher.

Believe it or not we are still playing it. Here are some extracts of what we made of it in chronological order:

"Gears Of War 3 failed to connect me to a role I wanted to play. While the theatrics and pyrotechnics were impressive, as much as I tried I didn't want to spent time with the people living through the hellfire and brimstone..."
- Dressup Gamer (Sun, 13 Nov 2011)

"Gears of War 3 stomps out another mouthwatering multiplayer feast. While the campaign may not match the humanity of Uncharted 3, the co-operative play is streets ahead..."
- Multiplayer Gamer (Wed, 21 Sep 2011)

Gears of War 3 360 Release

13/04/2011 10:01

Gears of War 3 benefits from a new graphics engine, while also finally delivering on the promise of four-player campaign co-op.

Gears of War has always been important to developer Epic Games as a show piece for the power of their Unreal Engine. This popular and powerful engine has pervaded the market although recent years have seen it stretched to its limits. Gears of War 3 is set to do reduce these limitations significantly with Unreal 3.5 that allows more realistic natural environments to be created.

To show all this off Gears moves from the oppressive brown and grey cities of the first game to focus instead on water, natural areas and architecture reclaimed by the elements. Gears of War 3 will feel very different.

More importantly though, Gears of War 3 finally joins the likes of Halo 3 with a four player co-operative mode. Although Gears of War 2 had two player campaign co-op, larger groups were restricted to the horde mode or competitive play. This addition, which will allow you to play through the story with up to three friends, will be huge boon to many.

In Epic's more than capable hands and with the full support of Microsoft behind it there is little doubt that Gears of War 3 will be flying off shelves when it is released exclusively for 360 on September 20th.

With so many different perspectives it can be hard to know where to start - a little like walking into a crowded pub. Sorry about that.

But so far we've not found a way to streamline our review output - there's basically too much of it. So, rather than dilute things for newcomers we have decided to live with the hubbub while helping new readers find the columnists they will enjoy.

What sort of gamer are you?
