InFamous 2 has been released on PS3 and been provided for us to preview/review by the publisher.

Believe it or not we are still playing it. Here are some extracts of what we made of it in chronological order:

"InFamous 2 returns Cole McGrath to fighting his way through a city of hostiles, choosing whether to be the hero or the villain. The sense of locomotion and combat is compelling, but it's the way it plays with right and wrong that is the most fun - although more than a little scary how close the two extremes become..."

"Infamous 2 may not quite nail the periphery, but the central gameplay is as strong as ever. Those looking for a role to play will find one here, but it does require some investment on the part of the player..."

InFamous 2 PS3 Release

29/05/2011 05:01

InFamous 2 continues the electrifying story of Cole McGrath, unwitting superhero and lightning-wrangler with new powers, a new enemy and a new city.

In my opinion what made the first InFamous so successful was that it managed to create a superhero mythos perfectly suited to the third-person videogame format. In a game adaptation developers must surely scratch their heads for the best way to represent an established character in an interactive way. Infamous 2 demonstrates that it is possible for videogames to create their own strong characters and design a set of abilities and powers which grows out of gaming itself.

Cole rides along power cables, hovers in the air and directs bolts of electricity to his foes all the while free running around a devastated city with incredible grace and agility. In InFamous 2 Cole begins with the powers he had developed in the previous game and begins his journey to face his dark destiny to face The Beast. Cole's abilities will be expanded further with the addition of fire- or ice-based abilities to complement his electric powers.

Set in a new fictional city (but based largely on the art and architecture of New Orleans) players will once again have the opportunity to reclaim the streets from power-hungry factions and choose to be either a beloved hero or a feared tyrant.

InFamous 2 is due for release on the PS3 on the 7th June (US) and 10th June (UK).

"The problem with video game news is that there is so much of it. I've made it my task to sift out the noise and bring you news about games I think you should be excited about."

With so many different perspectives it can be hard to know where to start - a little like walking into a crowded pub. Sorry about that.

But so far we've not found a way to streamline our review output - there's basically too much of it. So, rather than dilute things for newcomers we have decided to live with the hubbub while helping new readers find the columnists they will enjoy.

What sort of gamer are you?
