Tour de France Online promises a lot but fails to connect effort with results. Playing once a day online like the real tour is a nice idea, but in reality I'd have preferred something a little less demanding.

PC games offer a combination of true cutting edge computing with stunning visuals and a mature community. With the advent of Steam and Games for Windows this is stronger than ever.
Tour de France Online promises a lot but fails to connect effort with results. Playing once a day online like the real tour is a nice idea, but in reality I'd have preferred something a little less demanding.
Grace's Diary brings good writing and searching questions together for an intriguing experience. I was surprised to learn as much about myself as the general issues of teen violence the game addresses.
Although Rain Blood is only a few hours long, the story and bleak setting are genuinely moving. It places ideas under the microscope that are at times disquieting.
The Witcher's bleak world and grey morality make it one of my favourite RPGs. The microcosm it creates made me think about the impact of human vices, which are ever-present and spawn a variety of monsters, ranging from the hordes of ghouls and graviers, to the darker impulses within the human soul.
Simultrainer is an exercise system that works with a range of professional gym gear. While it's not cheap, the build quality and fundamental changes it brings to exedrcising are well worth it. And compared to a year's gym membership it's actually pretty good value.
Men of War: Red Tide is a curious game that offers glimmers of emotional connection despite ultimately feeling rather limiting and overly complex.
Supreme Commander 2 has good RTS ideas, but having lost too much time to stressful university life, I have to be picky about which games I'm prepared to get sucked into. Real Time Strategies have to be really streamlined to fit the bill.
Sleep is Death does away with artificial intelligence and level design by letting one of the players control this as you go. Difficult to explain but endlessly flexible to play, Sleep is Death asks a lot of you , but then creates something genuinely unique.
I'm Not Alone had me excited by its promise of a suspense driven horror gameset in my favourite setting - an old, creepy mansion. Unfortunately, it seems unable to deliver the game I anticipated. Poor visuals, appalling combat and obtuse puzzles prove the most obvious failings, but it is the lack of character and sub par writing (or translation) that were the real disappointment.
Torchlight PC doesn't try to be deep or complicated. The dark foreboding mine was unnerving but never really got under my skin. Although shallow, in small doses it was an immensely entertaining game.
It's not often you review a game dating back to the 16th Century. But what I'm bringing today is the wonderfully slick massively multiplayer experience that Chess.com has turned this board game into. Three words sum it up for me; tournaments, rankings stats and community - if you've never been into Chess now is the time because Chess.com takes this board game and fits it into your life, even into your phone.
Stalker: Call of Pripyat is the pinnacle of the unsettling and buggy trilogy set within the wasteland surrounding the Chernobyl reactor. Its technical competence vastly improved my experience and made the third instalment of the series the most memorable and disturbing of them all.
Curse of Blackmoor Manor is spooky point and click, with glowing red eyes in the dark, mysterious noises, and dark hidden passages, and it may be a little scary for younger adventurers. As the eleventh of twenty one Nancy Drew adventures from Her Interactive, we know the drill - hunt the screen for items, talk to everyone and apply some cryptic-crossword thinking to solve the puzzles.
Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight is exclusive to PC again, but the base-building Real-time Strategy is lost in favour of a more streamlined tactical system similar to Company of Heroes. The new approach offers a lightweight experience perhaps better suited to the console market than the PC.
Hidden Expedition is strangely moreish although it really shouldn't be. My inate human desire to find those hidden items overcame the unimaginative delivery to unearth a surprising amount of entertainment.
Bioshock 2's PC multiplayer leverages the tragic events of the fall of Rapture as a straightforward, chaotic online shooter. It's a combination that probably shouldn't work, but does.
VVVVVV is a PC retro style platform game that will whisk many an adult back to the days of childhood.
Bumps is a physics PC puzzle game that doesn't take itself too seriously and offers fun for anyone in the family. While there are cheaper alternatives, the quality on offer here warrants the box price.
Spore trys to create a life opera, and should be ideal for my soulful videogame desires. But a lack of narrative, and an eventual reliance on old gaming tropes left me feeling like I hadn't been invited to the party.
Mass Effect 2 on PC and Xbox 360 is a beautifully crafted space opera from the characters to gameplay. Technically too, this is simply a much better game, benefiting from techniques that improve every aspect and bring a fulfilling game full of jaw dropping moments and brilliant gameplay.
