inFamous PS3

The PS3 was released after the 360 and Wii. As such it is reported to be audio visually superior. Although needing to make up ground against its main competitor the 360, the PS3 has incrementally developed a solid offering and interesting array of games.

The PS3 console is unique because of its position as a high end entertainment device. It maintains a sense of a high fideltiy with its built in wireless internet connection, Blu-ray support and built in power supply. Sleek lines and minimal cables make it easy to accomodate under the TV. More about the PS3 range of consoles.

Here are the latest PS3 games we have been playing:

Here is my musical review of Flower on the PS3, I've called it 'This Poem'.

Demon's Souls PS3 hits you like steam train before crushing you in its wake - daring you to try again. And as slave to the thrill of its experience you will indeed plough in hours here. Without save points, steady progression, a pause button or anything one might reasonably expect, Demon's Souls creates one of the strongest connections to a videogame role I've experiences for many years.

Demon's Souls contains captivating and atmospheric microcosms. I willingly became absorbed in the harsh fantasy setting - needing to surrender and accept the game's own philosophy, rather than clinging to old expectations, fascinated me. It was a harsh but honest experience, something I'd been unknowingly craving.

Batman: Arkham Asylum PS3 is a brilliantly realised action adventure providing an experience as close to being a super hero as you can get without pulling on some tights. Although not previously a fan, Arkham delivers such a convincing a portrayal of Batman's super-vigilante role that I was soon won over.

Rather than giving me an original miniature world to explore, 3D Dot Game Heroes borrows from pre-loved creations. It's heavily inspired by classic Legend of Zelda, although to the point of being derivative. Underneath the retro nostalgia and blocky graphics lies a shallow experience, lacking significant appeal in its own right.

Sports Champions challenges for Wii-Sport's crown with its ability to sense depth of play, alongside motion and orientation. This sounds like the perfect match for Table Tennis and Archery events.

Fri, 20 Aug 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City PS3 provides two different but equally compelling stories well worth returning to the metropolis for. Whether you want to dress up or dress down, you'll find great writing, tonnes of brilliant new missions and a host of returning characters to make it worth your while.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope has a great combat but fails to compensate for disturbing characters, awkward story and restrictive exploration. I found very little in its miniature worlds worth reflecting on.

Heavy Rain PS3 is a remarkable achievement, although one that could have been so much more convincing. Dwarfed by its own expectations, there needed to be more humanity and acting going on for this to work. But in spite it all this is a very special game.

Mon, 09 Aug 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

Heavy Rain PS3 shoots for the moon, but while the filmic nature is impressive it doesn't distract from the juvenile game play. In parts scary, while in others unbelievable. A game I enjoyed watching more than I enjoyed playing.

Mon, 09 Aug 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

On progressive and artistic grounds Heavy Rain falls at every hurdle with clumsy delivery of story and characters. Visually strong but without the script to back it up. Contrived emotional moments left me feeling cold and unaffected. The vision of an interactive film may have been achieved but its lack of soul made all those technical achievements meaningless.

Mon, 09 Aug 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

Heavy Rain frustrates as much as it moves and endears us. This podcast is a chance for our writers to figure out why.

Mon, 09 Aug 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

BBC's Sherlock series adopts Heavy Rain's art style, visual communication and origami theme. We know, because Sherlock say as much the first time it uses the emotive on-screen text that Cage's game because famous for. Elementary.

Valkyria Chronicles PS3 should be a horrifying game. But its gritty honesty spoke as much to me about humanity as it did loss of life.

Sun, 08 Aug 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

Naughty Bear PS3 mixes ultra-violence with cute and cuddly - and creates a disturbingly hilarious game. Take revenge in the deadliest way possible on all those Care Bear inspired toys. The technology and techniques combine to offer a full-on game that is as much Grand Theft Auto as it is Build a Bear.

3D Dot Game Heroes PS3 harks back to role playing games of old. Instead of rose-tinted memories though, my experience was marred by unforgiving game play and my personal inexperience with the genre.

Five second reviews. Written, folded and photographed by hand for your pleasure. My haikvu's bring you bite sized hand sculpted game reviews. They combine the Japanese art of origami with haiku poetry.

God of War Collection PS3 gives the PS2's God of War games a new lease of life on Blu Ray. Their age certainly wasn't a barrier to getting into my role whilst wearing the sandals of a Greek God, even if Kratos' motivations aren't easy to sympathise with.

Nier is a very unusual game. We get under the skin of what makes it tick in this podcast.

Mon, 12 Jul 2010 Share: Twitter | facebook

King of Fighters XII is beautiful but simply never clicked for me. Before coming back to gaming I used to think you had to persevere at games like this. But now if I don't get it, I'm happy to move on.
