Limbo on XBLA is a beautiful puzzle adventure with sinister and disturbing underbelly. Delivering no narrative of its own, I was free to invent my own adventure, which proved as affecting as any pre-built storyline.
Other ConsolesWe also cover PS3 and PSN, Wii and Wii-Ware, 360 and XBLA, DS, PSP and PC.

Xbox Live Arcade is the donwload video game service on the Xbox 360 console from Microsoft. Along with it's Xbox Live pioneering online gaming community, their service offers a wide range of games to download.
Limbo on XBLA is a beautiful puzzle adventure with sinister and disturbing underbelly. Delivering no narrative of its own, I was free to invent my own adventure, which proved as affecting as any pre-built storyline.
Perfect Dark 360 is a futuristic period piece, a remake of a game set in 2023 and originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 2000. As a great example of how to remake a game, this vintage shooter is as enjoyable for its crisp retro style as it is for its Sci-Spy action.
Decay: Part One tackles grown up themes in sometime disturbing ways. Against the teen stereotype though I really enjoyed being treated like a grownup by a game. The experience was compelling, enjoyable even if it was very short.
Greed Corp XBLA presents like an old board game, but that's mainly a symptom of the hexes. Strong technical delivery and single minded focus on well balanced turn based play make Greed Corp a steady XBLA experience.
Greep Crop XBLA is a perfectly simple strategy game. It sets itself apart from other 360 downloadable strategy games with its unique interplay between resources and territory, combined with a charming aesthetic. But for all its charms, it is the chilling implication of the story that has stayed with me.
Revolutionary N64 Perfect Dark faithfully reproduced for the Xbox 360. A real lesson in multiplayer FPS history. But, as I discovered, history lessons on a console can be every bit as boring as they were in school.
In a world of modern ultra-realistic racers, Scrap Metal harks back to the days of arcade racing mayhem. On the 360's XBLA it has a heavy emphasis on mayhem and complete disregard for reality. Memories flood back of 80s arcades, Super Sprint and Ivan Ironman Stewart's Super Off-Road.
Toy Soldiers delves into childhood toy box and finds a tower defence game with novel first person elements. End to end tabletop plate spinning takes a surprising amount of time to learn before you can hit the multiplayer modes.
Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx 360 is a substantial DLC expansion to Borderlands that refines the game's unique character and sense of humour.
KrissX engages and educates with a simple word puzzle on XBLA. After the curriculum obbsessed clasroom learning, a little light haphazzard challenge is more that welcome in my book.
Carcassonne's turn based medieval fortified battlement building works beautifully as an XBLA multiplayer game, with a strategic element fit to rival chess. Almost.
Alien Breed Evolution XBLA updates the Team 17 Amiga classic but stuggles to capture the frantic pace of the original. Placing you on a derelict ship in three moody dimensions gives the experience a graphical face-lift, but the methodical pace of play pales in comparison to the original panicked fire-fights.
Marvel Vs Capcom 2's multiplayer games on Xbox Live are dominated by the same expert players that ruled the arcade brawlers ten years ago.
My Xbox told me this game was good, but then it does have a strange sense of humour. Unlike other XBLA games like Battlefield 1943, 'Splosion Man is amateurish and not up to snuff in my little black book.
Peggle on the 360's XBLA is an enjoyable if short lived experience in solo format that becomes an addictive, compelling puzzler once you're online and multiplaying against the rest of the world.
Battlefield is frankly a brilliant game, Xbox Live Arcade or not. Quality maps, modes and attention to detail make this seem more like a big boxed title than a little download. How did they do that?
Castle Crashers on Xbox live is a treat to play. Simple direct and great fun. With my usual multiplayer specs on I also found other players that treated me well, and a game with loads of collaborative angles. This was only slightly tarnished by getting unexpectedly kicked to the lobby by the game a few times.
Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure intelligently updates the Bubble Bobble sequel. Amongst a plethora of spin offs, for the first time we have a fitting follow up to the classic 90's arcade, Amiga and Atari ST hit Rainbow Islands. The games exquisitely balanced Challenge Mode had me transfixed, so I'll be zooming in on this baby for my Closeup review.
After the success of the first season of 1 vs 100 on Xbox 360's live service, season 2 is back to challenge our general knowledge between 19th of November and February 14th 2010. The format has been updated a little, but essentially remains to be a fresh quiz game format that captures the thrill and tension of our beloved Friday night TV shows.
South Park, undoubtedly, is one of the funniest animated series on TV right now, up there with The Simpsons and Family Guy. But in my experience, any game released that is tied in to any film or TV series is usually a disappointing waste of time.
