Joining Game People is still a little daunting, but I hope to offer some insider knowledge and insight into the best and worst driving games and peripherals available on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS lite and PSP.

If only my writing can keep pace with my cornering, we should be in for some fun times. Read more about me.

Split/Second PS3 made me question my real racing roots. But with such a focus on the driving, and heart warming visuals I can't argue with this arcade racer. It knows what it is and delivers in spades.

Supercar Challenge is System 3's sequel to the excellent Ferrari Challenge. It not only promised more of the same but an ongoing PS3 platform designed with the G25 wheel in mind and a real drivers experience.

EA take their popular series and get serious. This is a game which comes face to face with some the best race games out there. And surprisingly Need for Speed Shift manages to deliver a racing experience that is up there with the likes of Gran Turismo. It's also the first game I've ben able to put my G25 race wheel and seat to full use - brake, clutch and power steering - the works.

Microsoft Game Studios up the pressure in the fight to be the definitive racing game. Although having fewer years under the belt than Gran Tourismo they manage to deliver an update to the franchise that will be hard for Polyphony Digital to top.

Colin McRae Dirt 2 improves on last year's game in all areas. Although it's not the thorough bred rallying game I imagine Colin would be drawn to, it does him proud by keeping his name at the top of the video game rallying scene.

The Wii is not known for its grown up racing games. Ferrari Challenge breaks the mould with its attention to racing detail and commitment to delivering a real Gran Turismo style challenge. This is real racing, pure and simple.

While Mario Kart DS has seen huge (and warranted) success there haven't been many similar games. EA bring their MySims franchise into the kart racing fray with MySims Racing. Here it takes the genre in a more person centred customisable direction.

The original Need for Speed was an old favourite for me, bringing proper police chases to the gaming world in a groundbreaking way. It was exciting to play and highly addictive to repeatedly escape the boys in blue. Then the game went a bit soft with the follow-up (Need for Speed: Pro Street 360 and the like) so I gave it a miss. This new version promises something of the original which helped it gain the edge over the competition then, but will it work in the highly competitive race game market today? Let's find out.

Another long running series and another new racing game for PS3. Will it break new ground and make use of the Playstation's increased capabilities or is it another cash cow pushed out in the hope that no-one notices? As I slide the fresh copy of Midnight Club: Los Angeles into my PS3 I try to clear my mind of preconceptions and begin to play.
